Part-time Custodian

The Windham County Sheriff's Office is seeking a part time custodian for 20 hours a week with a flexible schedule. Class Definition: Manual work involving custodial care of county offices, buildings and grounds. Functions as crew leader and responsible for janitorial supplies and equipment requisitions, distribution, and care. Duties are performed primarily at the Sheriff’s Office under the direct supervision of the County Sheriff or his/her designee and indirect supervision of county assistant judges. Location is subject to change.

Examples of Work: Performs cleaning and housekeeping duties. Engages with outside vendors and contractors for regular inspections and maintenance, as approved by supervisor. Requisitions janitorial and housekeeping supplies. Operates motorized floor care and/or ground care equipment. Perform grounds keeping, snow removal, lawn mowing, painting, carpentry, minor mechanical repairs, landscaping, cleaning, trash removal, and recycling. May be responsible for securing building. Performs related work as required. Environmental Factors: Duties are performed during an assigned shift at a county owned or leased building. Must be able to work outdoors in all types of weather. Good physical condition and ability to climb ladders and lift heavy weights and equipment (up to 60 lbs.) is necessary. Some overtime, weekend or evening work may be required. Travel may be required for which private means of transportation must be available. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Considerable knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in providing custodial services. Physical ability sufficient to perform job duties. Knowledge of purchase and requisition procedures. Knowledge of computer use for online training, time-sheet entry and e-mail. Ability to operate building custodial equipment. Ability to perform assigned duties in a neat, safe, and timely manner. Ability to keep simple records and reports. Ability to work and interact effectively with fellow employees. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent Driver’s license Special Requirements: A criminal record check, fingerprints and/or child abuse registry check is required for positions within this class based on the locations where duties are to be performed.
