Description: On May 22nd, 2026 at approximately 0222 hours a Deputy with the Windham County Sheriff's Office assigned to the overnight paving detail on Western Avenue in the Town of Brattleboro, Vermont observed a white mini van enter on the Western Avenue and proceed into the construction portion of the roadway and continue driving toward the work being done.
The Deputy conducted a motor vehicle stop with the mini van and identified the operator as Claude Maillet. Subsequent investigation revealed that Maillet's privilege to operate in the State of Vermont was criminally suspended. Maillet was issued a criminal citation on scene and released. A passenger with a valid license then was able to take over operation.
The Windham County Sheriff's Office would like to remind the public to drive with due care when operating around and inside of a construction zone.
